In Uzbekistan, it is planned to introduce a child care allowance to provide additional support to working women during their maternity period.
According to the new procedure, after the end of the pregnancy and childbirth period, the child care allowance will be automatically assigned based on information in information systems and paid to the mother's social card.
According to Dilshodkhon Muhamedjonova, chief specialist of the National Agency for Social Protection, this system is a logical continuation of the state social insurance introduced from 2026.
As a logical continuation of the new state social insurance system introduced starting from 2026, the introduction of a child care allowance until their child reaches 1 year of age is being established to provide additional support to working women during their maternity period. It is intended to ensure the social protection of working women through the Social Insurance Fund from the period of pregnancy and childbirth until their children reach 1 year of age. An important aspect is that, like the pregnancy and childbirth allowance currently assigned by the fund, the child care allowance is also set to be assigned in a proactive manner, without requiring an application, additional documents from women, or visiting offices to submit an application. In this process, based on the information available in information systems, the child care allowance will be automatically assigned after the end of the pregnancy and childbirth period. This will be paid directly to the mother's social card.
To date, since the introduction of the new system, nearly 94,000 women have been paid pregnancy and childbirth allowances in January-August. When the child care allowance is introduced, these very women will have the opportunity to receive this allowance directly through the fund as well."
For now, the new payment applies to working mothers who are registered in the Social Registry and covered by the social insurance system. At the same time, self-employed women can also benefit from this opportunity.
