Working mothers will now receive allowances until their child reaches one year of age

By the end of the year, the procedure for registering needy citizens in the social registry will be revised in Uzbekistan. In this process, a transition will be made to a multi-dimensional assessment system that, along with household income, will also cover factors such as chronic illness, disability, having many children, and family members working abroad.

It is reported that although the poverty rate in the republic has dropped to 3.9 percent, this figure averages 6.5 percent among families with children under 3 years of age. At the meeting, the head of state outlined new approaches aimed at strengthening the social protection of needy families.

"We will establish a system that will provide parents caring for children with work and income at home or in the neighborhood," the president said.

Working mothers will be paid an allowance from the Social Insurance Fund until their child reaches one year of age.

This year, 300 billion soums have been allocated for a social package that generates "passive income" for needy families unable to work. It was noted that the income of half of the 11,000 families who received such assistance has increased significantly. An instruction was given to submit a draft resolution on continuing this system within a week.

"Starting next year, the state and private kindergarten fees, training center fees, travel expenses, and university dormitory costs of children from families registered in the registry will be covered through vouchers," the head of state said.

The voucher will be issued for a period of 12 months and will remain valid even after the needy family is removed from the Social Registry.
