Uzbekistan to lead the CIS again from January 2027

From January 1, 2027, the presidency of the Commonwealth of Independent States will pass to Uzbekistan. The corresponding decision is intended to be made at the upcoming meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the CIS in Turkmenistan.

This was announced by Yuri Ushakov, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation. According to him, at the summit to be held in Ashgabat on October 8–9, it will also be announced that the next meeting of the CIS heads of state will take place in Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan will announce the date of this future meeting later.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev will present the country's priorities for the period of its presidency in the Commonwealth at the meeting.

For Uzbekistan, this will be the second experience of holding the presidency. The country first assumed this responsible mission in 2020.

This year, the Commonwealth is led by Turkmenistan.
