Uzbekistan to expand lemon cultivation through energy-saving greenhouses

Uzbekistan intends to increase lemon cultivation through energy-saving greenhouses

Uzbekistan plans to erect energy-saving greenhouses for growing lemons and transfer them to businesses in a fully ready state. The development of the project will begin in the Balykchi district, and next year such complexes will appear in other regions as well.

The day before, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the project for the development of lemon growing.

In particular, energy-saving greenhouses with a total area of 100 hectares are to be built in the Balykchi district near nine mahallas.

The greenhouses will be handed over to entrepreneurs completely ready for operation. Production will be structured into a single chain: from cultivation to sorting, processing, packaging, storage, and sales.

Special attention is paid to supporting low-income and unemployed individuals — at least one thousand residents will get jobs in 500 greenhouses.

At the same time, it will not be necessary to wait for the first lemon harvest to start generating income. Before the trees begin to bear fruit, families will be able to earn money by growing other agricultural crops in the inter-row spaces.

There are plans to replicate the experience of the Balykchi district across the entire country. As early as next year, greenhouse complexes with a total area of 200 hectares will be built in the regions, which will increase the incomes of about two thousand families.

The President instructed to provide financial support for the initiative and to compensate for the expenses of training the population in lemon growing.

It is also reported that Uzbekistan has received permission to export lemons, as well as apples, figs, and hot peppers, to the Pakistani market.
