Uzbekistan increased sugar imports by 2.5 times in eight months

Uzbekistan sharply increased sugar imports in January-August 2026. This was reported by the Customs Committee.

According to the analysis, during the eight months, a total of 559.4 thousand tons of sugar worth $318.7 million was imported from abroad. For comparison, in the same period of 2025, this figure stood at 221.6 thousand tons worth $140.5 million. The difference has increased by nearly 2.5 times.

Tashkent city leads as the main destination for sugar imports into Uzbekistan. In eight months, five enterprises in the capital imported a total of 426.5 thousand tons of products into the country (76.2 percent of the total volume).

Additionally, the share of enterprises in Khorezm (54.2 thousand tons), Bukhara (17.5 thousand tons), and Qashqadaryo (14.7 thousand tons) regions in sugar imports was also relatively high.

In August alone, the country purchased 53.9 thousand tons of products from abroad. Over the past eight months, the largest sugar import occurred in July — 99.2 thousand tons. The lowest figure was recorded in January — 51.5 thousand tons. In the remaining months, sugar imports were as follows:

February — 60 thousand tons;

March — 70.9 thousand tons;

April — 80 thousand tons;

May — 68.5 thousand tons;

June — 75.3 thousand tons.

Earlier, the Statistics Committee reported that sugar prices increased by 1.6 percent in the period from August 2025 to August 2026.
