Uzbekistan increases sugar imports to record level

Uzbekistan imported more than half a million tons of sugar in January-July 2026, setting a record in this regard. This amount is equal to the entire annual import volumes of previous years.

According to the Customs Committee, a total of 505.4 thousand tons of sugar worth $ 348.1 million was purchased from abroad in seven months. The average import price of each ton of product was $ 688.

For comparison, in the same period in 2025, 187.2 thousand tons of sugar were imported for $ 116 million. At that time, one ton of sugar cost an average of $ 619. This means that the price increased by 11% compared to a year earlier.

In the first seven months of this year, sugar imports increased by 2.7 times compared to the same period last year. This figure is close to the amount of sugar imported from abroad for almost the entire year 2025 (516 thousand tons). In 2024, a total of 275.2 thousand tons of sugar were imported.

Over the past seven months, the largest amount of sugar was imported in July - 99.2 thousand tons. The lowest figure was recorded in January - 51.5 thousand tons. In the remaining months, the following amounts of sugar were imported:

* February - 60 thousand tons;

* March - 70.9 thousand tons;

* April - 80 thousand tons;

* May - 68.5 thousand tons;

* June - 75.3 thousand tons.

The Statistics Committee reported that sugar prices in Uzbekistan decreased by 6.3% in July 2026 compared to a year earlier.
