Uzbekistan has joined an international climate project financing program

Uzbekistan has joined an international program to fund climate projects
Uzbekistan has become one of five countries that international experts will help prepare climate projects to attract investment. This work will be carried out as part of the Climate Implementation Bridge (BRIDGE) initiative, launched with the participation of the UNDP.
The launch of the initiative was announced on September 24 in New York, during Climate Week. The program is being implemented under the auspices of the Presidency of the 31st UN Climate Change Conference (COP31), with the participation of the UNDP. In addition to Uzbekistan, the first group also includes Ethiopia, Fiji, Indonesia, and Pakistan.
Experts will assist in preparing projects and securing funding. For Uzbekistan, this is particularly important: according to its updated climate commitments, the country plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions per unit of GDP by 50% by 2035 compared to 2010 levels.
Under the initiative, special attention will be focused on the development of renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, rational water use, sustainable agriculture, waste management, and adaptation to climate change.
On October 8, the National Climate Change Center held an online meeting with the Turkish side, where further steps were discussed. At the first stage, international experts together with Uzbek specialists will analyze existing programs and prepare a roadmap for practical implementation.
Participation in BRIDGE opens up new opportunities for Uzbekistan — attracting investments, cooperating with international partners, and accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy. The initiative will also strengthen cooperation with Turkey ahead of the 31st UN Climate Conference (COP31), which will take place in November 2026 in Antalya.
