Uzbekistan dropped to 19th place in the electric vehicle ranking

Uzbekistan ranked 19th among 30 countries in Kept's electric transport development ranking, losing five positions compared to 2024.

Uzbekistan ranked 19th in the international electric transport development rating compiled by the consulting company Kept.

Compared to the previous study in 2024, the republic lost five positions, although the production of electric and hybrid vehicles in the country is expanding.

The 2026 rating includes 30 countries. In their evaluation, experts took into account the size of the electric vehicle fleet, the availability of charging infrastructure, state support measures, and other parameters. The study was prepared based on data as of July 2026.

According to Kept's estimate, between 50,000 and 100,000 electric vehicles are in use in Uzbekistan. By this indicator, the country is in the same group as Russia and Malaysia. In Kazakhstan, the electric vehicle fleet is estimated at 30,000–50,000 units.

One of the key constraining factors for the Uzbek market remains the shortage of charging infrastructure. By this criterion, the republic received 2 points out of a possible 20. Kazakhstan received zero points.

At the same time, Uzbekistan continues to hold leading positions in Central Asia in the development of electric and hybrid vehicle production. According to the study, projects by the Chinese companies BYD and Leapmotor envisage a combined production capacity of up to 70,000 vehicles per year.

BYD also intends to increase its capacity in Uzbekistan to 200,000 vehicles per year by 2030.

Among the factors slowing down the development of the industry, Kept experts cite the lack of local battery production, insufficient development of public electric transport manufacturing, and a limited set of state incentives for the market.

China took first place in the rating with 78 points. South Korea received 69 points to take second place, and Germany came in third with 67 points. The top five leaders also included India (66 points) and the United States (65 points).

Kazakhstan ranked 18th with 40 points, ahead of Uzbekistan by one position.

Earlier, it was reported that at the end of 2025, Uzbekistan accounted for nearly half of all electric vehicle sales in the Eurasian region and became the largest electric transport market in the region.
