Uzbekistan and Pakistan agreed to step up the fight against drug trafficking
Uzbekistan and Pakistan intend to expand cooperation in countering the illicit trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances. The President of Uzbekistan approved the relevant intergovernmental agreement signed in Islamabad on February 5, 2026.
The document outlines the procedure for cooperation between the two states in combating the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and their precursors—chemical components used in their production.
On the Uzbek side, the coordination of work will be handled by the Drug and Firearms Control Agency under the Presidential Administration. The Prosecutor General's Office, the State Security Service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Customs Committee under the Ministry of Economy and Finance will also be involved in implementing the agreement.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan will send an official notification to the Pakistani side regarding the completion of the necessary internal procedures required for the agreement to enter into force.
Earlier, the Senate approved an agreement on the transfer of sentenced persons between Uzbekistan and Pakistan.
