**Uzbekistan and Israel strengthen cooperation in the archival sector**
The Embassy of the State of Israel in the Republic of Uzbekistan welcomes a new significant stage in the development of bilateral cooperation in the field of archival affairs, which was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the "Uzarchive" Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the State Archives of Israel.
The document was signed at the National Archives of Uzbekistan by the Director of the "Uzarchive" Agency, Ulugbek Yusupov, and the Chief Archivist of the State Archives of Israel, Ruth Abramovitz, who led the Israeli delegation. The ceremony was also attended by the Ambassador of the State of Israel to the Republic of Uzbekistan, Gideon Lustig, as well as archival specialists, scientists, and representatives of the public from both countries.
During the meeting, the parties reviewed prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation in the preservation, study, and digitization of archival documents, as well as the protection of historical and cultural heritage for future generations. Special attention was paid to the exchange of professional experience, the development of joint scientific research, and the implementation of modern technologies in archival affairs.
Cooperation between the archival institutions of Israel and Uzbekistan has been consistently developing in recent years. Among the important stages of this interaction were the signing in 2021 of a memorandum of cooperation with the Central Archives for the History of the Jewish People, and in 2022, a memorandum of cooperation with the Yad Vashem Memorial Complex. These initiatives laid the groundwork for further scientific interaction and the study of historical sources reflecting the shared heritage and historical ties of the two peoples.
Speaking at the ceremony, Israeli Ambassador Gideon Lustig emphasized the importance of friendly relations between Israel and Uzbekistan, noting the special role of scientific and cultural cooperation in preserving historical memory. The signing of the new memorandum became another step toward strengthening institutional ties, exchanging knowledge and experience, and creating new opportunities for the implementation of joint research projects.
The Embassy of Israel considers cooperation in the archival sector to be an important area of the broad partnership between Israel and Uzbekistan. By preserving historical documents and expanding access to them for researchers and the general public, both countries gain the opportunity to deeper understand the past, strengthen cultural ties, and ensure the preservation of the stories and experiences of previous generations for posterity.
The signing of the memorandum confirms the shared commitment of Israel and Uzbekistan to preserving historical heritage and further developing cooperation in the fields of science, culture, and education.
