The Embassy of Israel and SamSU signed an agreement on a grant for studying the history of the Jewish community of Samarkand

The Embassy of the State of Israel in the Republic of Uzbekistan and Samarkand State University signed an agreement to provide a grant to the university's Department of History to support scientific research dedicated to the history and cultural heritage of the Jewish community of Samarkand.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Ambassador and representatives of the Embassy of Israel, as well as the leadership and faculty of Samarkand State University. The grant will enable historians and researchers of the department to conduct a comprehensive study of the historical development, cultural heritage, and contribution of the Jewish community to the socio-economic and cultural life of Samarkand and its connection with Israel.

This initiative reflects the commitment of the Embassy of Israel and Samarkand State University to promote historical research, preserve cultural heritage, and strengthen academic cooperation between Israel and Uzbekistan.

Samarkand has historically been an important center of Jewish life in Central Asia; the Jewish community has existed here for many centuries. It played a significant role in the city's history and contributed to its rich multicultural and religious heritage.

The research conducted under the grant is expected to help better understand and document the history of the Jewish community of Samarkand, as well as make this heritage more accessible to scholars, students, and the general public.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Ambassador of Israel to Uzbekistan, Gideon Lustig, emphasized the importance of preserving the history and cultural heritage of the Jewish communities of Uzbekistan and expressed gratitude to Uzbek scholars for their work in this field.

The Rector of Samarkand State University, Rustam Khalmuradov, welcomed this initiative and noted the importance of further developing academic cooperation and conducting research based on historical sources and archival materials.

The signing of the agreement was another step in strengthening educational and cultural ties between Israel and Uzbekistan and demonstrates the great importance both sides attach to the preservation and promotion of the multifaceted historical heritage of the Uzbek people.
