Uzbek surgeons achieve historic milestone in combined liver and kidney transplantation

For the first time, Uzbek surgeons have performed a simultaneous liver and kidney transplant on a single patient, local broadcaster Sevimli reported.

Uzbekistan's surgeons have reached a historic milestone by successfully performing a combined liver and kidney transplant.

The intricate operation took place at the National Medical Center. The patient had been suffering from cirrhosis and end-stage renal failure, necessitating hemodialysis treatments for the last four years.

According to medical professionals, transplanting only one organ would not have provided adequate benefit for this patient. Therefore, the dual organ transplant was the sole feasible option to preserve the patient's life.
