For the first time in Uzbekistan, a patient underwent a liver and kidney transplant at the same time. The Zamon news program reported this.

This complex operation, which was performed at the National Medical Center, was performed on a patient suffering from cirrhosis of the liver and terminal stage of chronic renal failure, who had been on hemodialysis for four years.

A woman living in the Pakhtachi district of the Samarkand region had been struggling with liver disease for eight years. Later, her kidneys also lost their function, and she was forced to undergo regular hemodialysis for four years.

The patient also developed liver cirrhosis as a result of hepatitis C. She was initially recommended to undergo the operation abroad, including in India, but it was not possible to find a donor and funds for the costs of treatment.

Doctors say that in such a case, a liver transplant or a kidney transplant alone may not be enough. Therefore, the simultaneous transplantation of both organs was seen as the only solution that would save the patient's life.

At the National Medical Center, the patient underwent a high-tech operation, in which both the liver and the kidney were transplanted. Experts noted that such complex operations are usually performed in countries with developed transplantology.

Doctors noted that this operation will expand the possibilities of high-tech transplantation assistance in Uzbek medicine for patients living with severe liver and kidney failure.
