Two Uzbeks injured in fire in Omsk
Initial official reports said that all 11 people injured in a fire at a multi-storey building under construction were Uzbek citizens. The Uzbek Foreign Ministry denied this information.
Two Uzbek citizens injured in Omsk fire
A fire that broke out in a building under construction in the Russian city of Omsk on August 15 left 11 people injured and hospitalized.
Initially, the Omsk Regional Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation reported that all of the victims were Uzbek citizens. However, in a statement to Kun.uz, the press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Omonulla Fayziyev, denied this information and confirmed that only two of the victims were Uzbek citizens.
All of the victims were builders working on the construction of a multi-storey building.
Local sources reported that the fire was caused by a spark that hit a heater during welding work. Firefighters from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, who arrived at the scene, spent more than an hour extinguishing the fire, which covered an area of 1,000 square meters. They rescued 5 people and took 11 people to a local hospital with varying degrees of injuries.
Three of them were later discharged from the hospital, while the remaining eight remain in the intensive care unit in serious condition. They suffered burns ranging from 20 to 90 percent of their bodies.
