Two chess players from Uzbekistan enter world's top five
As many as two representatives of Uzbekistan have entered the top five chess players in the world in the current classical chess ratings. Javokhir Sindarov has climbed to third position, while Nodirbek Abdusattorov is running fifth.
Sindarov achieved this after the defeat of American Fabiano Caruana by Andy Woodward at the US Championship. The Uzbek grandmaster's rating rose to 2782 points, allowing him to overtake Caruana, who dropped to fourth place with a score of 2780.3.
Higher than Sindarov in the live rating are only Norwegian Magnus Carlsen with 2823 points and American Hikaru Nakamura with 2792.
Nodirbek Abdusattorov holds fifth place with 2780 points.
The live rating is updated after played games, while the official FIDE rating is revised on a fixed schedule. In the October official rating, Sindarov ranks fourth, and Abdusattorov is fifth.
Earlier, Abdusattorov stated that Sindarov's talent puts him on a par with Garry Kasparov — the 13th World Chess Champion, who is considered one of the strongest players in history. He also admitted that the success of his compatriot served as a source of inspiration for him and restored his confidence in his own strength.
