Two cases of extortion thwarted in Tashkent and Namangan. Video
Three people were detained in Tashkent and Namangan on suspicion of fraud and extortion. One of them promised to secure a job in the internal affairs bodies for money, while two others demanded money from the owner of a non-residential building in exchange for not drawing up a report on an electricity meter malfunction.
This was reported by the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the Prosecutor General's Office.
The first episode was identified in the capital. Employees of the Mirobod District Department, jointly with representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, conducted an operational event regarding a man who, according to the agency, promised to secure a job in the internal affairs bodies for another person's relative for $4,000. He was detained while receiving $2,000 — half of the agreed amount.
The second case occurred in Namangan and was related to the work of power engineers. According to the Department, the head and a master of the Yanginamangan District Department of the "Energosbyt" branch of the "Regional Electric Networks" Joint Stock Company told the owner of a non-residential building in the "Guzal" mahalla that the electricity meter installed there was allegedly faulty.
According to investigators, the employees warned that a report would be drawn up for this violation, resulting in a fine of 300 million soums. Instead, they offered not to draw up the document for $4,000. The men were detained while receiving $2,500 from the building owner.
Criminal cases have been opened on both facts, and an investigation is underway.
