Trump suggested Zelenskyy go to Moscow to meet with Putin – Bloomberg

Donald Trump asked Volodymyr Zelenskyy to go to Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Bloomberg writes, citing sources.

According to the agency's interlocutors, Trump made this proposal during his meeting with the Ukrainian leader in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. Zelenskyy, however, did not accept the proposal.

Sources close to the Ukrainian president said that Trump's suggestion to go to Moscow offended Zelenskyy.

The Kremlin has repeatedly stated that a meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy can only take place in Moscow. In particular, on September 23, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said: "Our position is well known. As Putin said, if Zelenskyy wants, he can come to Moscow. He will be provided with the necessary security guarantees."

In June 2026, Putin said that Zelenskyy had invited him to a personal meeting through one of the Russian businessmen. It later became known that this businessman was Roman Abramovich. The Russian president stated that he had never refused a meeting, but did not want to "beat around the bush."

Earlier, Zelenskyy said that the Trump administration had made three proposals to de-escalate the war in Ukraine. One of them involves holding trilateral negotiations with the participation of representatives from the US, Russia, and Ukraine. Abu Dhabi was mentioned as a possible venue for the meeting. Zelenskyy said that Kyiv would gladly agree to this proposal.
