Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he is ready to meet with Vladimir Putin in Miami within the framework of the G20 summit scheduled for December, if the Russian leader also participates.

"Yes, of course. We need to meet, talk, and make decisions. It's not about words. It doesn't matter what I say to him or what he wants to say to me. Only the result matters. That's it," he said in an interview with a DW correspondent on September 11 during his visit to Canada's "North Bay" military base.

Zelensky and Putin have not met face-to-face since the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The Kremlin has not yet responded regarding whether Putin will travel to Miami for this meeting. The Russian president has not participated in G20 summits since 2019.

**"Ceasefire on energy and grain could be the first step towards negotiations"**

In his interview with DW, Zelensky said that Ukraine is now much stronger on the battlefield than it was in 2025. According to him, Russia is losing "more than 30,000 soldiers every month and paying a very high price for very slow progress on the battlefield." "Therefore, we believe we are in a good position for negotiations now," he said.

"Perhaps someone does not like the word 'ceasefire'. I don't care who likes it or not. We love life. We want peace, and that is why we are negotiating," the Ukrainian president emphasized.

Zelensky said that stopping attacks on energy and grain shipments could be the starting point for achieving peace.

"What can lead us to any negotiations? Energy and grain. This is the first step. What we can achieve," he said.

In the interview, Zelensky also said that Ukraine urgently needs Patriot missiles in the winter of 2026. He emphasized that at least 100-120 missiles per month are needed for the cold season, as Russia produces 140 ballistic missiles every month.

Zelensky had previously expressed readiness to compromise with Russia on sensitive issues for the country.

"Grain, energy are painful issues for Ukraine and Russia. Today, they are also important issues for the whole world, including India, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Asia, and many other countries. We are ready to compromise," the Ukrainian leader had said.
