Traffic in Tashkent increases by 30% on first day of school year

The number of cars in Tashkent increased by 30 percent on the first day of the school year.

Despite the fact that on September 2, the traffic flow on the streets of Tashkent increased by 30 percent compared to a normal working day on August 24, the overall traffic congestion level in the city remained at around 6 points. This was reported by YHTEM.

According to the center, the traffic flow was monitored in real time. Almost all important regulated intersections in the capital were connected to a digital system, and specialists monitored the road condition, the operation of traffic lights, vehicle queues and public transport traffic.

In cases of increased traffic queues, the duration of the green light at traffic lights in directions with high load was extended, the traffic light phases were readjusted, and neighboring intersections were coordinated with each other. This prevented the spread of traffic jams to subsequent intersections.

Employees of the Traffic Safety Department of the Tashkent City Internal Affairs Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan were promptly informed about traffic jams caused by accidents, car stops on the road, lane closures, repair work or violation of parking rules. If necessary, traffic was manually regulated on the spot and appropriate services were involved.

A working group consisting of representatives of the Tashkent City YHTEM, the Main Department for Transport and Road Infrastructure Development, the Public Safety Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, public transport dispatch services, and engineering and analytical departments is operating in the center of the situation.

According to the center, with the start of classes in higher educational institutions, academic lyceums, technical schools and other educational institutions, the traffic load may increase further. Therefore, in the coming days, monitoring of traffic will continue in an intensified manner.

On September 1, YHTEM and the Transport Department announced that the transport system in Tashkent is ready for high traffic volumes in connection with the start of the new school year. Work has been carried out to improve traffic safety around schools ahead of the new school year.
