Traffic lights have been reconfigured at the intersection of Fitrat and Heydar Aliyev streets in Tashkent

The traffic light operation mode at the intersection of Fitrat and Heydar Aliyev streets in Tashkent has been revised and adjusted. The purpose of this change is to improve traffic flow, as a result of which the queue of cars has decreased during the day and the time to cross the intersection has decreased to 2 minutes.

Specialists of the Center for Traffic Management (YHTEM) have thoroughly studied the traffic flow at the intersection. Having determined which directions are most congested, they have adjusted the traffic light cycle to the current traffic load.

According to the previous regulation, the first phase of the traffic light lasted 35 seconds, and the second phase - 28 seconds. As a result of the new settings, the green light time for the direction with the most traffic has been extended from 35 seconds to 60 seconds.

In addition, cars from the opposite direction will now stop a little earlier. This will allow vehicles turning at the intersection to complete the maneuver safely and clear the intersection faster. This change will help to pass more vehicles through the intersection during one cycle.

According to YHTEM, after these changes, the queue of vehicles during the daytime has significantly decreased, the traffic has become more even, and the time to pass the intersection has decreased to 2 minutes.

At the same time, due to the presence of a railway crossing near the intersection, vehicle traffic will be temporarily suspended during the passage of the train. At this time, vehicles may accumulate at the intersection for a short time.

The center continues to monitor the situation. Experts are working on developing separate traffic light operating modes for morning and evening rush hours.

At the next stage, it is planned to upgrade the traffic lights at neighboring intersections and connect them to a single “Green Wave” system. This system allows vehicles moving at the permitted speed to pass through intersections with consecutive green lights and stop less often.

At the end of July this year, the first section of the “Green Wave” system, based on the synchronous operation of traffic lights, was launched in Tashkent. This system was introduced at 13 intersections on the section of Buyuk Ipak Yuli Street from the “Tora Buva” mosque to Salom Street.
