The National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change responded to reports about the planned construction of a parking lot in the area behind the National Library, stating that there is currently no environmental expertise conclusion.
The statement emphasized that any construction and landscaping work in the area, including work that could affect trees and shrubs, green spaces, and soil cover, cannot be carried out without an appropriate environmental assessment.
It is planned to plant more than 1,000 trees and shrubs as part of the project. However, according to the committee, new seedlings cannot fully replace the ecological, climatic, and recreational value of existing perennial trees and established green areas.
The committee stated the need to preserve the existing green spaces and trees in the area as much as possible, to conduct a full inventory of them, and to submit the project documents for environmental expertise in accordance with the established procedure.
