Industrialized intensive orchards adapted to the climate of the Aral Sea region are expanding.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the modern agricultural experience established in the industrialized intensive orchard of the ADM Agro enterprise located in the Kegeyli district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

In world practice, it is common for car manufacturing companies to develop other sectors as well and conduct multi-profile activities.

The ADM Group company, which manufactures cars in the Jizzakh region, is also expanding its activities based on this very approach. Developing intensive horticulture in the Aral Sea region has become one of its new directions.

"It is said that in the harsh climate and salty soil of the Aral Sea region, horticulture does not justify itself. This project, in which 55 billion soums were directed, completely changes these views.

The total area of the orchard is 330 hectares. Most importantly, 100 permanent jobs were created for the local population. Villagers who previously did not have a permanent source of income are now working in their own area and bringing prosperity to their families," the president's press service said in a statement.

Currently, 250,000 black plum saplings bred in the USA have been planted on an area of 69 hectares. This variety is highly resistant to salty soils. It begins to bear fruit just 2 years after planting. One tree yields up to 50-60 kilograms of harvest. The large size of the fruit and the easy separation of the stone make it very convenient for processing.

In order to make efficient use of the land and increase income, a high-yielding tomato variety was planted between the trees. An average of 40-45 tons of harvest can be obtained from each hectare of the cultivated area.

The modern technologies used in the orchard provided an effective solution to the problem associated with water scarcity. Closed drainage and drip irrigation systems have been implemented on the site. With conventional irrigation, 12,000 liters of water are used per hectare of land. Through the new system, this consumption is only 5,000 liters. As a result, water is saved by up to 60 percent.

Water goes directly to the tree roots and is not wasted. Up to 90 percent of the mineral fertilizers applied along with the water are absorbed by the plant. Maintaining moisture at a steady level further increases productivity. Since the system is fully automated, a single operator can easily manage hundreds of hectares of land.
