The number of self-employed taxi drivers in Uzbekistan has increased by 5 thousand
The Tax Committee has refuted reports of a sharp decline in the number of self-employed taxi drivers and provided data on trips and industry revenues.

The number of self-employed citizens engaged in passenger transportation in Uzbekistan grew by 5 thousand people over the year, reaching 782.5 thousand as of September 1, 2026. The Tax Committee stated that reports circulating on social media about a significant reduction in the number of self-employed taxi drivers are due to methodological inaccuracies.
According to the agency, as of September 1, 2025, the total number of registered self-employed individuals working in the passenger transportation sector was 777.1 thousand people. At the same time, 481,149 self-employed individuals worked through taxi aggregators from January 1 to September 1, 2025.
During the same period in 2026, 481,117 self-employed individuals operated through aggregators. Thus, their number decreased by 32 people.
At the same time, the total number of self-employed in the passenger transportation sector increased from 777.1 thousand to 782.5 thousand people, which is approximately by 5 thousand.
Separately, the Tax Committee reported an increase in the number of female drivers. During the eight months of 2026, their number reached 4,107 people, compared to 3,753 during the same period last year. The growth amounted to 354 people, or 10%.
During the eight months of 2026, 329.1 million trips were made in the country for a total amount of 7,168.4 billion soums. Compared to the same period in 2025, the number of trips grew by 9%, and their total value increased by 23%.
The Tax Committee noted that the dynamics of the self-employed working through taxi aggregators is a natural market process. The agency expects the growth of indicators to continue until the end of 2026, taking into account the results of the past period and the ongoing interest in the sector.
According to the committee's assessment, the expansion of official employment in the passenger transportation sector contributes to the increase of legal income sources and enhances the transparency of the services market.
