The number of foreign universities in Uzbekistan has increased 4.3 times in 10 years

The number of foreign universities in Uzbekistan has increased dramatically over the past decade. The growth has especially accelerated after 2020.

The number of foreign higher education institutions in Uzbekistan has increased by 4.3 times over the past decade.

According to data provided by the National Statistics Committee, at the beginning of the 2025/2026 academic year, 30 foreign higher education institutions were operating in Uzbekistan. This figure is 4.3 times higher than the 7 in the 2015/2016 academic year. Thus, over the past decade, the number of foreign universities in the country has increased by 23.

The number of foreign higher education institutions was only 2 in the 2005/2006 academic year. By the 2010/2011 academic year, this number had reached 6.

In the 2015/2016 academic year, there were 7 foreign higher education institutions operating in the country, but their number has increased significantly over the past five years. At the beginning of the 2020/2021 academic year, the number of foreign higher education institutions reached 18, which is 11 more than in the 2015/2016 academic year.

Also, from the 2020/2021 academic year to the 2025/2026 academic year, the number of foreign higher education institutions increased by another 12, bringing the total number from 18 to 30.
