The flow of foreign students to Uzbekistan has more than doubled.

According to Podrobno.uz news agency, Uzbekistan, Tashkent:

In the first six months of this year, Uzbekistan welcomed over 21,000 international students, representing a 2.2-fold increase compared to the same period last year.

The National Statistics Committee reports that this is 11,500 more than in the same period in 2025.

The largest number of students came from Turkmenistan – over 9,200. India ranked second with over 3,700 students, and Tajikistan third with 1,900.

Other countries whose citizens chose to study in Uzbekistan included China (951), Kyrgyzstan (834), Pakistan (689), Egypt (603), the Republic of Korea (526), the Philippines (367), and the United States (302). Another 1,900 students came from other countries.

At the same time, a significant decline in the number of Uzbek citizens traveling abroad to study was observed in early 2026. From January to March 2026, 5,900 Uzbeks traveled abroad, 1,600 fewer than in the same period last year.
