Cinematography Agency to be liquidated, system transferred to the Ministry of Culture

The Cinematography Agency of Uzbekistan, 19 organizations within its system, and the Cinematography Fund will be liquidated. The authority to conduct state policy in the cinema sector will be transferred to the Ministry of Culture. Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced this on October 26 during a meeting with filmmakers at the "Renaissance" Cinema House, the presidential press service reports.

It was noted that first of all, a compact and modern management system will be established in the sector. It was identified that the main criteria for the effectiveness of the Cinematography Agency's activities had become merely fulfilling the approved plan, rather than the popularity or audience acclaim of the films being shot.

Furthermore, an integrated system for film marketing, distribution, and international sales has not been established.

From now on, a Department of Cinema Art will be established within the structure of the Ministry of Culture, and the status of the head of this department will be equalized to that of a deputy minister.

Also, a new national film company, "Uzbekfilm", will be established under the sponsorship of the ministry, and it will be designated as the main operator in the sector.

Following the liquidation of the Agency and the structures within its system, vacant state buildings and assets will be put up for sale through open auction.

The officials were instructed to complete the liquidation of the Cinematography Agency and the organizations within its system, as well as to effectively establish the activities of the newly created Department of Cinema Art, within one month.
