Human resource development is one of the key areas of cooperation between Japan and Uzbekistan. This was announced by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to our country, Kenji Hirata, at an educational event held in Tashkent.
The tenth meeting of the alumni club of higher education institutions of the Land of the Rising Sun, organized at the residence of the Japanese Ambassador, was also attended this time by students who successfully passed the tests and are leaving to study in Japan.
"Japan has been supporting Uzbekistan in state-building since it gained independence. Our goal is to assist Uzbekistan in becoming an open, stable, prosperous, and independent state in Asia. In this regard, Japan pays special attention to human resource development as a guarantee of success,"
said Japanese Ambassador Kenji Hirata.
In 1996, the scholarship program of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT) was launched. Later, educational opportunities expanded further through programs such as JDS, JASSO, Japan-IMF Scholarship, and Japan-ADB Scholarship.
"In December 2025, I had the honor of accompanying the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev during his visit to Japan. Both at the 'Central Asia + Japan' format summit and during the bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, the leaders discussed cooperation in the field of education as one of the important areas. This direction is of great importance for us both in deepening regional ties and bilateral strategic partnership,"
said the diplomat.
Japan traditionally provides educational grants to Uzbekistan. Thanks to these grants, hundreds of representatives of Uzbekistan's ministries and agencies have studied at prestigious universities in the Land of the Rising Sun. They have returned to their homeland with master's and doctoral degrees and are successfully working in various sectors of the state and private sectors, as well as the national economy.
The Uzbekistan Japanese Universities Alumni Club (UJUAC) was established in 2014, and over the past period, the club has become a platform uniting more than 420 specialists who gained knowledge and experience in Japan.
In addition to strengthening ties between graduates of Japanese universities and participants of educational programs, the club also provides an opportunity to exchange information, knowledge, and personal experience related to studying in the Land of the Rising Sun, and to share achievements.
Our compatriots who studied in Japan are helping to further expand cooperation between the two countries as ambassadors of friendship.
