Test: Do you know Shukrullo's works?
Shukrullo, the author of such works as 'Those Buried Without Shrouds', 'Living Souls', and 'The Chest of Jewels', turned 105 on September 2. To mark the occasion, the Gazeta has prepared a test based on the work of the writer and poet.
Test: Are you familiar with Shukrullo's work?
Shukrullo Yusupov was born on September 2, 1921 in Tashkent. The poet began his teaching career in Karakalpakstan in 1938, and graduated from the Tashkent Pedagogical Institute named after Nizami in 1944. He worked as a teacher in Tashkent until 1945, and then worked in the Writers' Union until 1949. He also worked at the State Publishing House of Uzbekistan.
His first poetry collections - "The First Notebook" and "Songs of the Heart" - were published in 1949. In 1959-1964, the books "Hayot ilhomlari", "Umrim boricha" and "Inson va yasslik" were published. Later, in 1973-1988, the works "Zarralar", "Suyanchik", "Yashagim keladi" and "Sening baht" were published, and in 2001, the collection of poems "Sto‘kilgan dardlarim" was published.
Shukrullo is the author of such epics as "Chollar", "Russia", "Two Rocks", "Gul va otash", as well as "Kongil Chirogi", and also created the novel-chronicle "Javohirot sandig‘i", "Kafansiz ku‘milganhar", "Qasosli dunyo" and "Third Souls".
The recipient of the "Do‘stlik" and "El-yurt hurmati" orders, he translated the works of such authors as Carlo Gozzi, Sandor Petyofi and Taras Shevchenko into Uzbek.
Shukrullo, who was convicted of nationalism and anti-Soviet propaganda in 1951 and sentenced to 25 years in prison, was released in 1955 after Stalin's death.
The People's Poet of Uzbekistan died in 2020.
