Temperature inversion in Tashkent may persist for another 10 days — Uzhydromet
Atmospheric inversion in Tashkent could last for another 10 days. According to Uzhydromet, this exacerbates air pollution.
"Dust and pollutants are constantly entering the atmosphere. In the absence of wind, their dispersion is hampered. Rain, in turn, washes away some of the dust particles from the air. During periods of calm weather and lack of precipitation, pollutants accumulate in the air. Atmospheric inversion makes their dispersion into the upper layers of the atmosphere even more difficult," the message reads.
Uzhydromet noted that a number of measures are being implemented to improve air quality. Among them are watering city roads, installing filters in greenhouses, greening territories, monitoring dust prevention at construction sites, and other measures. In addition, raids are being conducted at greenhouse facilities and industrial enterprises.
The main reason for the deterioration of air quality in Tashkent and other cities of Central Asia on October 20–27 was an anticyclone, weakening wind, and temperature inversion, according to the Hydrometeorological Research Institute. These conditions contributed to the accumulation of natural dust and emissions from transport, industry, and the energy sector.
