Tashkent welcomes 63,003 first-graders as schools add 11,190 places

Tashkent's educational institutions are accommodating 63,003 new first-grade students, while the city's schools have added 11,190 new spots.

The Tashkent City Administration reports that 328 general education schools in Tashkent are currently serving 511,848 students. This year, over 63,000 children are beginning their first year of schooling.

Specifically, 63,003 children commenced first grade in Tashkent's general education schools in 2026, with 55,158 of them enrolling in state-run institutions. The city has also increased its school capacity; 14 schools underwent construction and renovation in 2026, resulting in the creation of 11,190 additional student places.

The capital is also expanding its inclusive education programs. Inclusive classrooms and correctional facilities have been established in 128 schools, providing suitable environments for 664 students. The city administration emphasized that enhancing educational quality remains a key objective, with the "Tashkent Experience" initiative slated to continue in 24 schools.

Furthermore, Tashkent schools are anticipating the recruitment of 754 new foreign language specialists to their educational institutions.

Previously, the National Statistics Committee reported that at the start of the 2025/26 academic year, Uzbekistan's general secondary education institutions totaled 11,118. This represents an increase of 2,561 schools, or approximately 30%, compared to the 1991/92 academic year.

In 1991/92, Uzbekistan had 8,557 schools. This number steadily grew to 9,806 by 2010/11, then saw a slight dip to 9,720 in 2015/16. Subsequently, the figure resumed its upward trend, reaching 10,181 in 2020/21 and 11,118 in 2025/26.
