The new school year has begun in Uzbekistan.

Today, September 2, all general education institutions in Uzbekistan opened their doors for the start of the 2026/2027 school year. This year, more than 795,000 first-graders entered school for the first time. The start of the school year coincided with the celebration of the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan's state independence.

As part of the traditional "President's Gift" initiative, each first-grader will receive a set of 12 school supplies.

In the new school year, Uzbekistan's education system includes 10,225 general education schools, where more than 550,000 teachers will teach and educate over 6.7 million students.

Minister of Preschool and School Education Ezoza Karimova congratulated students, teachers, and parents on the occasion of Knowledge Day and the start of the new school year.

In her address, the minister specifically highlighted the children who were hearing the "First Bell" for the first time and entering school life, as well as their parents.

Karimova emphasized the importance of developing the education system, enhancing the status and authority of teachers in society, and creating conditions for children to acquire modern knowledge and professional skills. She noted that schools are being modernized and advanced approaches are being introduced into the educational process, opening new horizons for the younger generation.

The minister also mentioned the successes of Uzbek schoolchildren in international subject Olympiads, competitions, sports, and creative competitions. She also emphasized the opportunities for graduates to continue their education at leading higher education institutions both in Uzbekistan and abroad.

Karimova expressed confidence that in the new academic year, the dedication of teachers, the support of parents, and the students' desire for knowledge will form the foundation for new achievements.

She wished the students, teachers, and parents good health, family well-being, and success in their studies and professional endeavors, and expressed hope for a successful and prosperous new school year.
