Tashkent warned of likely deterioration in air quality

On the night of October 10, a temporary deterioration in air quality is possible in Tashkent. The most unfavorable conditions are expected during the night and morning hours, while the situation is projected to gradually improve during the day.

According to forecasts, the international Air Quality Index (AQI) during these hours will mostly indicate conditions that are unhealthy for sensitive groups. At the same time, according to the national standard, air quality is expected to remain at a "good" level.

The cause of the potential deterioration is a temperature inversion—a phenomenon where warmer air above the ground layer prevents it from mixing. Combined with light winds of about 0–2 meters per second, this could lead to the accumulation of fine particulate matter PM2.5 and PM10 near the ground surface.

According to Uzhydromet forecasts, the air temperature at night may drop to 14 degrees. As the surface warms up during the day, the inversion is expected to weaken, and vertical air mixing should increase, which will contribute to improved air quality.

Residents are advised to avoid spending extended periods outdoors in the evening. A special commission continues to monitor the state of the atmospheric air.
