The parliamentary delegation of Uzbekistan, led by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Norboyeva, is also actively participating in this conference.
The main theme of the Assembly is the development of effective governance based on inclusivity, trust, and equal opportunities for all. The meetings discuss issues such as human rights, artificial intelligence, climate change, food security, the rights of persons with disabilities, and the fight against terrorism.
Within the framework of the Assembly, the Forum of Women Parliamentarians was also organized. It reviewed a draft resolution aimed at ensuring the rights and expanding the opportunities of persons with disabilities.
Tanzila Norboyeva presented Uzbekistan's experience in protecting the rights of women and girls with disabilities, protecting them from violence, and creating equal conditions for education and labor.
The Uzbek side also put forward a number of proposals for the draft resolution. In particular, it was proposed to conduct mandatory expertise of draft laws from the perspective of the rights and interests of persons with disabilities, to separately assess the problems faced by women and girls with disabilities, and to directly involve them in the decision-making process.
It was also emphasized that there is a need for regular parliamentary oversight of the implementation of adopted laws and for broader involvement of persons with disabilities and organizations representing their interests in this process. The proposals made by the delegation of Uzbekistan are expected to be taken into account in the subsequent discussion of the resolution.
The general debates of the Assembly discussed issues of increasing trust in state institutions, expanding citizen participation in decision-making, and strengthening the practical role of parliaments in the lives of the population.
The Senate Chairperson provided information on the work being carried out in Uzbekistan to implement the principles of a welfare state, reduce poverty, and strengthen the legal foundations of social policy.
