Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva met with President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Tulia Ackson in Samarkand, according to the Senate of the Oliy Majlis. The talks were held on the sidelines of the 12th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians.
Narbaeva said that regular contact with Ackson helps strengthen trust-based and productive cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Inter-Parliamentary Union. The meeting also underscored the organization’s expanding role in parliamentary diplomacy during Ackson’s presidency, along with her initiatives on peace, human rights, gender equality, artificial intelligence, and youth policy.
Both sides gave particular attention to cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Inter-Parliamentary Union. They especially noted the importance of the organization’s 150th Assembly, held in Tashkent in 2025. The event, the first of its kind in Central Asia, gathered more than 2,000 delegates from nearly 140 countries, including 740 parliamentarians.
The parties also discussed implementation of the Tashkent Declaration, which urges parliaments to take practical measures to ensure social development and justice. The 12th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in Samarkand is seen as an international forum for dialogue on increasing youth participation in political processes and strengthening their role in decision-making. At the end of the meeting, the sides said they were ready to keep developing inter-parliamentary ties between Uzbekistan and Tanzania, share experience, and broaden cooperation within parliamentary diplomacy.
