Samarkand has been awarded the title of “World Crafts City”. The Samarkand regional administration reported this.
The certificate confirming this prestigious status was presented to the Samarkand regional governor, Adiz Boboyev, at the end of a meeting with the President of the World Crafts Council, Saad Hani Al-Qaddumi.
During the negotiations, issues of further development of crafts, preservation of national applied arts traditions and their promotion outside Uzbekistan were discussed.
In particular, special attention was paid to creating favorable conditions for the activities of craftsmen and developing the “master-apprentice” tradition. This tradition involves the transfer of professional skills and experience from master to apprentice.
Granting Samarkand the status of “World Crafts City” is aimed at supporting the centuries-old craft traditions of the region and creating new opportunities for local craftsmen. It is also expected that national applied arts will be further promoted internationally.
The parties agreed to continue cooperation in the fields of handicrafts and tourism. The status obtained should also serve to develop international relations in these areas.
