Shakhrisabz Awarded the Title of "World City of Crafts"

In 2026, Shakhrisabz was awarded the international status of "World City of Crafts" in the embroidery category. This significant event was announced at the closing ceremony of the "Iroki" International Embroidery Festival, which was held in the city. The Dunyo news agency reported this news, citing the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan.

The official announcement of the status was made by Saad Al-Qaddoumi, President of the International Council of Crafts (AISBL). The international certificate confirming Shakhrisabz's new status was ceremoniously presented to Sherzod Buriyev, the city mayor.

This status is a testament to the international recognition of Shakhrisabz's centuries-old handicraft traditions. Among these, the national art of "Iroki" embroidery holds a special place.

The new international status is expected to further strengthen Shakhrisabz's position in the fields of handicrafts and cultural heritage preservation. It is also intended to promote national handicraft traditions and support local artisans.

International recognition should also enhance the city's tourism potential and promote Shakhrisabz in international tourism markets as an attractive destination for handicraft and cultural tourism.
