Samarkand was awarded the World City of Crafts certificate.

Samarkand has received official recognition as a World City of Crafts. The certificate confirming this status was presented to city representatives by Saad Hani Al-Qaddoumi, President of the World Crafts Council.

Al-Qaddoumi noted that the new status will contribute to Samarkand's growing international profile, attracting more foreign tourists, and opening new markets for local crafts.

A total of seven cities in Uzbekistan are included in the World Crafts Council's list. In addition to Samarkand, this list includes Kokand (received the status in 2019), Bukhara and Margilan (in 2022), Rishtan and Shakhrikhan (in 2025), and Shakhrisabz (in 2026).

It was previously reported that Tashkent leads Uzbekistan's regions in the number of registered artisans.
