Samarkand has been awarded the title of "World City of Crafts."
Following a meeting with Saad Hani Al-Qaddoumi, President of the World Crafts Council, Adiz Boboev, the governor of the Samarkand region, was presented with a certificate confirming Samarkand's status as "World City of Crafts."
During the meeting, the parties discussed the further development of handicrafts, the preservation of national applied arts traditions, and their promotion beyond Uzbekistan.
Particular attention was paid to creating favorable conditions for artisans and developing the "ustoz-shogird" tradition, which involves the transfer of professional skills and experience from master to apprentice.
The designation of Samarkand as "World City of Crafts" is intended to support the region's centuries-old handicraft traditions and expand opportunities for local artisans. Further promotion of national applied arts examples internationally is also expected.
The parties agreed to continue cooperation in the fields of handicrafts and tourism. According to the Samarkand regional administration, the status received should also facilitate the development of international relations in these areas.
