President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov has put forward an initiative to ban the production and import of energy drinks.

"I instruct the Cabinet of Ministers to consider banning the production and import of energy drinks within one month, and to take appropriate regulatory measures within the framework of legislation within six months," Japarov said.

The President also cited data on the consumption of energy drinks. According to him, in 2025, the consumption of energy drinks in the country amounted to 54 million 199 thousand liters, or approximately 129 million cans. In the first half of 2026, this indicator reached 36 million 83 thousand liters, or almost 85 million 900 thousand cans.

In 2025, 25 million 263 thousand liters of energy drinks were produced in Kyrgyzstan. 28 million 430 thousand liters were imported from member states of the Eurasian Economic Union, and 1 million 239 thousand liters from third countries.

"These drinks can gradually cause addiction. Their consumption becomes a habit, and a person later becomes unable to give it up. I believe the time has come not only to fight the consequences of diseases, but also to prevent them and take comprehensive urgent measures," Japarov said.

If the production of energy drinks or their import into the country is banned in Kyrgyzstan, the republic's budget may lose approximately 1.5 billion soms ($17.15 million) in revenue from direct and indirect taxes.

"The health of the nation, citizens, and future generations should not be measured in money," Sadyr Japarov said.
