In Kyrgyzstan, teachers and officials banned from campaigning on the eve of the presidential election

The President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, signed a decree regarding the presidential elections to be held on January 27, 2027. Now, it is forbidden to involve teachers and students in election campaigning.

The decree signed by Japarov outlines the necessary measures to ensure free and transparent presidential elections. According to the document, it is prohibited to involve teachers, school students, university professors and students, medical workers, social service employees, and representatives of other state and municipal organizations in campaigning in favor of any candidate.

The Cabinet of Ministers has been instructed to bring to disciplinary liability officials who illegally participate in election campaigning or use their official position in the interests of any candidate. If necessary, such managers and employees will be dismissed from their posts.

The decree is also aimed at preventing illegal interference of state and municipal bodies in the electoral process and the use of administrative resources.

The Central Election Commission was recommended to take additional measures to ensure that election rules are applied equally to everyone and to keep citizens informed.

The document also provides for measures to ensure the participation of international observers in the election in accordance with the legislation of Kyrgyzstan.

For information, the incumbent President Sadyr Japarov has been serving as the head of state since January 28, 2021.

In an interview with the media on August 13, 2026, Japarov announced that he would participate in the next presidential election. He stated that he would run for a second term to complete the reforms that have been started.
