Russia and Belarus could join Uzbekistan’s E-Permit system this year
Uzbekistan is working to introduce an electronic system for exchanging international road haulage permits with Russia and Belarus, with the transition expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
This year, Russia and Belarus may be integrated into Uzbekistan's E-Permit system. Currently, transport operators rely on paper permits for international road freight shipments to these two nations. According to the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan, the pertinent government bodies are actively developing an online permit exchange system, with the goal of launching the required electronic platforms by the close of this year.
The Ministry of Transport emphasized that "the shift to the E-Permit system is not a decision Uzbekistan can make unilaterally." This initiative necessitates agreements between the competent authorities of each country, along with the mutual recognition of electronic permits. Furthermore, the authorities must integrate their respective systems and thoroughly test the mechanisms for electronic data exchange.
Uzbekistan has been progressively broadening the application of its E-Permit system for international road transport. Digital permit exchanges are presently operational with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and China. The E-Permit system was also recently implemented between Uzbekistan and Georgia. The Ministry of Transport stated that Uzbekistan now exchanges electronic permits with a total of seven countries.
