Romanian Diplomats Participated in the Tashkent International Half Marathon

On September 6, 2026, the Ambassador of Romania to the Republic of Uzbekistan, Daniel Cristian Ciobanu, participated in the Tashkent International Half Marathon in the 5 km race.

In a conversation with journalists, Daniel Cristian Ciobanu warmly congratulated the people of Uzbekistan on the 35th anniversary of independence, wishing them peace, prosperity, and success.

He emphasized that the Tashkent International Half Marathon contributed to strengthening international sports cooperation, and also noted the high level of organization of the competition. The diplomat expressed his admiration for the fact that the running route passed through the impressive streets and past the most beautiful landmarks of Tashkent.

Speaking about the development of bilateral relations between Romania and the Republic of Uzbekistan in the field of sports, the Ambassador mentioned the visit to Bucharest of the Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan, Oybek Kasimov, in May 2026. The diplomat also recalled that Uzbek Grandmaster Javokhir Sindarov took third place at the prestigious Super Chess Classic Romania 2026 tournament, which took place from May 14 to 24, 2026, in Bucharest.

The Ambassador drew attention to the successful performance of the Uzbekistan national rhythmic gymnastics team at the World Challenge Cup stage, which took place from June 26 to 28, 2026, in the Romanian city of Cluj-Napoca.

He also pointed to the participation of the Uzbekistan national team in the IHF Women's Youth (U18) World Championship, which took place in Romania from July 29 to August 9, 2026. The Ambassador recalled an important foundation of the sports dialogue — the visit to Uzbekistan of the State Secretary for Sports of Romania, Mr. Thomas Moldovan, which took place in 2022.
