Progressive ranking of Uzbekistan's regions announced

The Center for Progressive Reforms has presented the latest results of the "Progressive Ranking of Regions," which assesses the socio-economic development of Uzbekistan's regions. This ranking is being published for the third consecutive year.

In the ranking, regions are evaluated in the areas of healthcare, education, economy, infrastructure, opportunities, public safety, and the natural environment. Specifically, healthcare takes into account 14 indicators related to access to medical services and population health, education includes 7 indicators, and the economy considers 9 indicators related to the business environment, labor market, and economic growth.

The infrastructure ranking is formed based on 8 indicators regarding housing stock, transport, and communications. The opportunities direction includes 11 indicators on living conditions, economic opportunities, and gender equality. Public safety is evaluated using 5 indicators, and the natural environment is assessed using 4 indicators.

According to the Center's updated ranking for 2026, Tashkent city was found to be the best region in Uzbekistan.

In the overall ranking, it is followed by Navoiy region, Xorazm region, Buxoro region, and Sirdaryo region. The top ten also included Namangan, Tashkent, Qashqadaryo, and Surxondaryo regions, as well as the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

The leaders also vary in individual directions. For example, in healthcare, Jizzax region took 1st place, Tashkent city took 2nd place, and Qashqadaryo region took 3rd place.

In the field of education, Tashkent city came first, Samarqand region second, and Namangan region third. Tashkent city also led in the economy, with Navoiy region taking second place and Buxoro region taking third.

In terms of infrastructure, Tashkent city is recorded in 1st place, Tashkent region in 2nd place, and Fargʻona region in 3rd place.

Tashkent city also maintained first place in the opportunities direction. Navoiy and Xorazm regions placed next.

In terms of crime and corrections, Navoiy region took 1st place, Sirdaryo region 2nd place, and Xorazm region 3rd place.

In terms of the natural environment, Namangan region became the leader. Qashqadaryo region was recorded in 2nd place, and Xorazm region in 3rd place.

Thus, although Tashkent city took 1st place in the overall ranking, it is not the leader in all directions. For example, it is recorded in 2nd place in healthcare, and in 12th place for crime and corrections.

For information, in the Center's previous comprehensive ranking published based on the results of 2024, Tashkent city took 1st place, Navoiy region 2nd place, and Buxoro region 3rd place. Xorazm, Sirdaryo, and Samarqand regions took the next places. Namangan, Surxondaryo, and Jizzax regions were recorded in the bottom three.
