Third Place in Central Asia
The British think tank Legatum Institute has released its annual Prosperity Index, which assesses the prosperity of countries based on economic, social, and institutional criteria. In the latest edition, Uzbekistan ranked 94th out of 161 countries.
Within Central Asia, the country ranked behind Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Kazakhstan topped the regional list at 66th place, Kyrgyzstan ranked 87th, and Turkmenistan ranked 150th.
**Uzbekistan's Strengths According to the Index**
According to the data presented, Uzbekistan demonstrated the best results in the following areas: education (37th place), social capital (19th place), security (52nd place), and family and community connections (59th place).
At the same time, the country showed more modest results in the categories related to personal freedoms and the institutional environment. Thus, Uzbekistan ranked 126th in personal freedom, 131st in freedom of speech, 136th in ease of doing business, and 103rd in investment attractiveness.
Prosperity Index Methodology**
The Prosperity Index is based on three key areas: Development, Freedom, and Society. Overall, the ranking takes into account dozens of different indicators, including education, healthcare, security, investment climate, governance, personal freedoms, and social connections. The index has been published since 2007 and annually assesses countries' well-being using hundreds of indicators collected from international sources.
It is worth noting that in the Global Passport Index 2026, Uzbekistan ranked 129th in freedom of movement and 89th in investment attractiveness. The country ranks 119th in quality of life. Furthermore, the country's passport ranked 123rd out of 197 countries and territories.
