On the eve of Independence Day, 30,000 tons of waste were removed in Uzbekistan per day

On the eve of Independence Day, 30 thousand tons of waste are being removed every day in Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan is holding "40-day urgent" cleaning events before Independence Day. As part of these events, which will last from July 28 to September 6, work is being carried out to improve the condition of territories, timely removal of waste, and improve sanitary conditions.

According to the Agency for Waste Management and Circular Economy Development, an average of 4.5 thousand special equipment and more than 10 thousand employees are involved in the events every day. As a result, 30-40 thousand tons of solid household waste are being removed daily. A total of 1.4 million tons of solid household waste and 2 thousand tons of construction waste are planned to be removed and utilized over the 40 days.

Currently, 7,674 of the 8,150 makhallas in the republic are fully covered by the campaign events. In order to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the equipment, 52 out of 64 identified malfunctions were eliminated, 12 pieces of equipment were replaced. Another 155 pieces of special equipment are being kept in reserve for emergencies.

Before the Independence Day, sanitary cleaning and improvement work has been intensified in markets, shopping malls, parks and recreation areas. Waste generated as a result of repair work in schools and preschool educational institutions is also being removed.

In addition, 97 violations related to waste were identified, and administrative fines totaling 165.4 million soums were imposed on them. Of the 327 appeals received from the population, 275 were resolved on the spot.

According to the Directorate of Landfill Management under the Agency, an average of 4,500–4,700 trips are made per day at 135 solid waste landfills in the republic, receiving and disposing of 14–15 thousand tons of waste.

In accordance with the Presidential Decree “On Measures to Increase the Efficiency of Hazardous Waste Management”, it was announced that the recycling rate of hazardous industrial waste in Uzbekistan will be increased to 20% by 2030.

According to the document, one of the main priorities is to increase the volume of recycling of radioactive and chemically hazardous waste of hazard classes I–IV generated at mining, metallurgy, chemical industry, oil and gas and power plants, and to safely and minimally dispose of non-recyclable waste.
