The "Topical 40 Days" campaign, timed to coincide with the 35th anniversary of the country's independence, continues in Uzbekistan.
The events, which ran from July 28 to September 6, are aimed at improving the landscaping of communities, improving sanitary conditions, ensuring timely waste removal, and raising environmental awareness among the population.
Special headquarters have been established within the Agency for Waste Management and Circular Economy Development, its regional offices, and systemic organizations to coordinate the work. Responsible employees have been assigned to each region, and round-the-clock monitoring and daily monitoring are in place. Currently, the campaign covers 3,604 of the country's 8,150 mahallas.
On average, 3,000-4,000 units of specialized equipment and 8,000-10,000 workers are involved in the cleanup efforts daily. The daily waste removal volume ranges from 16,000 to 20,000 tons of municipal solid waste and 1,500 to 2,000 tons of construction waste.
On August 5, 2,732 pieces of equipment and 8,996 specialists were deployed, removing 18,500 tons of waste in 24 hours. Of the 64 equipment malfunctions identified, 52 were promptly repaired, 12 were replaced, and an additional 155 vehicles are in reserve. During the first 10 days of the campaign, 125,526 tons of waste were deposited at 137 landfills, for which specialized equipment made 39,130 trips.
As part of environmental compliance monitoring, 97 violations were identified, resulting in administrative fines totaling 165.4 million soums. In the lead-up to the holiday, cleaning of markets, parks, and recreation areas, as well as school and kindergarten grounds, has been intensified. Tree residues from sanitary pruning are sent to the production of organic fertilizers. In addition, specialists reviewed 327 citizen inquiries regarding cleanliness, 275 of which have already been resolved on-site.
