The Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbayeva, met with the Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs and Head of the United Nations Youth Office, Felipe Paullier, within the framework of the 12th IPU Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians. During the conversation, the parties reviewed the development of cooperation in the field of youth policy, the participation of young people in decision-making, and the interaction between the parliament and the UN, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis reports.
The meeting participants emphasized the importance of joint efforts to advance the global youth agenda and ensure the meaningful participation of young people in decision-making processes. It was noted that Uzbekistan views youth not only as recipients of state support but also as active participants in transformations and partners in shaping state policy.
The parties paid special attention to the work of the youth parliaments under the Senate and the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.
These platforms provide young people with the opportunity to familiarize themselves with lawmaking processes, propose their own initiatives, and participate in discussions on topical issues of the country's development.
The parties also discussed the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan to establish a "World Youth Movement for Peace" with headquarters in Uzbekistan.
The participants expressed interest in further promoting this initiative and in considering practical mechanisms for its implementation with the participation of young parliamentarians and youth organizations from different countries.
Among the promising areas of interaction, the establishment of systematic cooperation between the UN Youth Office and youth parliaments was identified, as well as expanding the participation of Uzbekistan's youth in UN programs and international platforms.
In addition, the parties outlined the possibility of implementing joint initiatives on the climate agenda, digital transformation, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Tanzila Narbayeva wished success in holding the Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which will take place in October this year in Tanzania.
