Murder on the wrestling field: Sentence handed down to the person who stabbed a famous wrestler in Denov
A murder occurred during a national kurash competition held in the Denov district of the Surkhandarya region: Nizomiddin Chotboyev, one of the famous wrestlers of the oasis, was stabbed and died in the hospital. The court sentenced the 29-year-old man who stabbed the wrestler to 19 years of imprisonment.

A court sentence has been issued in the Denov district against the person who stabbed the famous wrestler Nizomiddin Chotboyev.
According to the court decision, Doston Jabborov, born in 1997, had previously been convicted twice for crimes of hooliganism and intentional infliction of severe bodily injury.
On May 9, 2026, Doston Jabborov went to watch a national kurash competition held in the Yangiariq neighborhood of the Denov district. In the competition, his younger brother Bistonbek Jabborov faced the wrestler Nizomiddin Chotboyev's son, Ayubkhon Khurramov, on the mat.
Bistonbek Jabborov lost in the wrestling match. Enraged by this, Doston Jabborov left the competition venue. On the way, he heard from a taxi driver that his father Asl Khudoyqulov and Nizomiddin Chotboyev had gotten into an argument at the wrestling arena. Angered by this, Doston Jabborov returned to the site of the competition.
He took a kitchen knife from inside a nearby grocery store and went to the wrestling arena. There, he stabbed Nizomiddin Chotboyev 4 times in front of his children.
The wrestler sustained severe injuries and died in the hospital.
Doston Jabborov pleaded guilty in court. He stated that he did not realize how many times he had stabbed the wrestler, that everything happened in a fit of rage, and asked the court for leniency.
"I don't remember how many times I stabbed him. At that time, no one could get near me; everyone stood about 2 meters away, afraid to approach. I was extremely furious. Then I threw the knife away and pushed Nizomiddin Chotboyev once to get him away from me. He raised his face and hit the left side of my face with his head. Stunned by the blow, I walked back quickly and fled from him."
In court, Ayubkhon Khurramov stated that his father Nizomiddin Chotboyev was stabbed in front of his eyes and that he suffered severe distress from this. He asked the court to sentence the defendant to life imprisonment.
By the verdict of the Qumqorghon District Criminal Court, Doston Jabborov was found guilty of committing the crime provided for in Article 97 (intentional homicide), Part 2, paragraphs "j, l" of the Criminal Code. He was sentenced to 19 years of imprisonment. The sentence is to be served in general regime colonies.
