Lithuania is preparing for a potential war with Russia: an evacuation plan has been developed

Lithuania has prepared a plan to evacuate the population of the capital, Vilnius, in the event of a military conflict or a major crisis. One of the three main directions for evacuating the capital leads toward the Polish border.

The government of Poland's Podlaskie Voivodeship is preparing this area as a transit corridor for the population of the Baltic states. According to the plan, the evacuation procedure will be determined depending on where the threat is located and its scale. In addition to Poland, routes leading to the north and west of Lithuania are also envisioned.

Zygimantas Solovjovas, a representative of the Civil Protection Department of the Vilnius City Municipality, stated that the authorities presented the updated evacuation plan a year ago.

"One of the evacuation routes leaving the capital must lead to Poland," he said.

At the same time, the evacuation must begin before an immediate threat arises. Vilnius residents are advised not to hope to leave the city during an attack.

"Vilnius residents should not think that they will be able to leave the city via one of the evacuation routes during an attack," Solovjovas said.

Civilians must hide in shelters during a direct attack. According to the city administration representative, one of the goals of the plan is to prepare the population for the fact that evacuation must be an organized and controlled process.

Poland's Podlaskie Voivodeship is included in the regional evacuation planning system for the Baltic states. Local government authorities are participating in the preparation of emergency response plans.

According to the "Polskie Radio" publication, this decision is related to the war near Poland's eastern border and the risk of further escalation of the situation. Therefore, this does not mean evacuating the residents of Vilnius right now. This is only a pre-prepared scenario for a military threat or a major crisis.

It was hypothesized that Russia could attack one of the NATO countries in 2025. Although the war in Ukraine continues, concerns about an invasion by the "aggressor" country have recently intensified in Europe. Moscow, meanwhile, maintains that it has no intention of attacking anyone.

Earlier, it was reported that Germany is preparing its hospitals for a potential war with Russia. It is noted that Berlin officials have admitted that the country's healthcare system is not ready for a military conflict. The government has ordered the reactivation of a special bunker for the military.
