Uzbekistan ranked in the middle position in the global under-five mortality rate ranking

Uzbekistan ranked 97th in the global ranking for the lowest child mortality. The situation in the Republic of Uzbekistan is better than in the world as a whole. In 2024, the share of children who died under the age of 5 out of all those born in the world was 3.7%, while in Uzbekistan it was 1.3%. Such data was published in June of this year by the OurWorldinData portal based on information from the UN Inter-agency Group for Child Mortality Estimation.
If we compare Uzbekistan's indicators with other Central Asian countries, it can be noted that the republic did not occupy the lowest positions. At the same time, Kazakhstan, located in 70th place, showed a share of children who died under the age of 5 out of all those born in 2024 at the level of 0.9%. Kyrgyzstan took 113th place (share — 1.7%), Tajikistan — 141st (2.8%), Turkmenistan — 160th (3.9%).
If we compare Uzbekistan's data with the leaders of the ranking from economically developed countries, it lags behind many of them.
In first place, with a minimum figure of 0.1%, was the tiny Southern European state of San Marino. Very low shares of children who died under the age of 5 in 2024 were also recorded in Estonia, Luxembourg, Belarus, and Slovenia: 0.2% each.
In states with highly developed healthcare systems, such as Israel, Germany, and the United Kingdom, this indicator varied from 0.3% to 0.5%. The worst situation was in African Nigeria, where 11.6% of born children died.
